Who they are
In addition to the need for health care, there are psychological, social and relational needs for the sick person and for family members that influence their quality of life. Through its activities, Humanitas foundation integrates the care offered by the hospital with services that allow you to live in a more serene way the experience of the disease.
What they do
The volunteers of Humanitas Foundation are people who provide a free service alongside the sick person and the family. They are present in all areas of care of the hospital, with differentiated tasks according to the need: listening and keeping company, giving information. Volunteers can also provide more specific services to facilitate the reception and guidance of patients in hospital or the liaison between healthcare professionals and families.
How they become volunteers
To become volunteers of Humanitas Foundation, you need:
- to be between 18 and 80 years old
- to have availability of at least 4 hours per week
- to have an aptitude interview and attend training courses
Training and updating
Volunteers take part in specific training courses that deepen relational attitudes and skills, providing different levels of specialisation depending on the areas where volunteers provide their service. The preparation of volunteers is carried out by doctors and nurses, together with experts from Humanitas Foundation. Volunteers keep training and updating throughout the period of their commitment in the hospital.
